Well well well, what goes up, must come down. That’s the theme of today’s Fishin’ Friday Football, after the high of watching football on a Tuesday night has been replaced with the soul crushing lack of Thursday Night Football.
I’d normally be giving my picks Thursday, but I decided I’d enjoy these conference championship series and write about this weekend. Take all picks with salt, I’ve been up-and-down myself recently.
Update: at the time of writing, the Astros hit a walk-off home run and I’ve become agitated.
SMU at Tulane (-6.5), 6 p.m. EST
I’m taking Tulane here. The +6.5 scares me, so I am just going to take the ML (+185). I think the value is there, especially when you consider Tulane:
-At home
-has a great running game (avg. 241.3 rushing yards per game [!!]) in a favorable matchup (SMU allowing 164.3 rush ypg)
-looking to bounce back after forcing FIVE turnovers and still losing to Houston last week
Considering the run games of both teams, I just can’t put faith in the over. At the same time, both offenses are clicking so I can’t rule out the under, so I’m skipping the OU and just hanging sack on the money line.
BYU at Houston (+5), 8 p.m. EST
This seems like the over to go for. Both offenses are humming. The overs have been hitting like crazy to begin the year, but we have seen bookmakers catching on to the NFL. I think we have one more week before college gets adjusted and think this is the game to put confidence in the over for.
I’ll take BYU in this game. Houston is going to score a bunch but BYU is hungry for a real splash game. Even if things get hairy, I see the Mormon Cougars being able to grind out time and field for a late FG lead.
ALCS Game 6, Astros at Rays (-1.5 runs, +140), 6:07 p.m.
Rays are going to pull this out. They have to. Fuck the Astros. Rays to win by 2 at +140. This is also going to be the first game in this ALCS to go over. Take it now at 8 (-105) before the line moves.
Like the title said, this Friday we’re fishing. It just might be with dynamite.
